Though Japanese is usually written in three scripts (Kanji, Hiragana and Katakana), Japanese sentences can be written in either Hiragana and Katakana only. So, learning Hiragana and Katakana is a good start for Japanese writing. Hiragana is used for words of Japanese Origin, like Japanese names, places and ALL Japanese words.
